Dr. Patrick Clinch, Sandan

Psalms 144:1  “Blessed be the Lord my Rock who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle.”

My martial arts experience began in the early 70s at the Dojo of the Rising Sun

Jukite Ryu Ju-Jitsu class at the YMCA in Rapid City SD under the direction of then Young Master Claude Woodson, and Sense Al Salazar. By 1973 I had earned the rank of 3rd degree Brown belt under the direction of head instructor Al Salazar. In 1974, I graduated from high school and enlisted in the United States Marines. Sensei Salazar wanted to test me for Black Belt before I left, that did not happen. While stationed on Okinawa in 1975 Shorin Ryu Karate was the next martial arts I studied. Then I Studied Tae Kwon Do in 29 Palms California 1976-78.

Since 1985, I have been in private practice of Chiropractic in Rapid City SD. I coached youth soccer for 20 years and, was President of the Rapid City Youth Soccer league for 5 years.

Returning to Jukite and earning my Black Belt remained an unattained goal in my life but other things such as the Marine Corps, college, family, and career had taken priority. I continued involvement in the Ju-Jitsu class in Rapid City.

At the age of 46, (2001) I started back into Jukite Ryu Ju-Jitsu to earn my Black Belt under the direction of Head Instructor Master Doug Langworthy. After being a Brown belt for 30 years, I earned my Shodan 1° Black Belt in 2003.

Interestingly enough, my Shodan 1° Black Belt certificate is signed by Doug Langworthy and Julio Usera who at one time were both lower belt ranking in Ju-Jitsu than I and by Josh Usera who was not even born when I earned my 3° Brown. I have continued as an instructor under the direction of Master Langworthy. I earned a promotion to Nidan 2° Black Belt under the direction of Master Doug Langworthy in 2006.

Sensei Patricks 2nd deg BB promotion:

In 2008, I was promoted to 3° Black Belt by Jukite Ryu Ju-Jitsu Grandmaster Claude Woodson, Hachidan Al Salazar and, Schichidan Doug Langworthy.

2008 Promotions; Rice 6th; Smith, Lampert and Clinch 3rd.

It was an honor to have them present and to have my 3° Black Belt certificate signed by the top three Black Belts in Jukite Ryu Ju-Jitsu.

Returning to martial arts after so many years is the best thing I could have done physically. In that I am more mentally quick, my balance and stability is improved. I have also rekindled friendships from years past. Al Salazar and others have remained friends since the early 1970s.

Jukite Ryu Ju-Jitsu  is strong thanks to the influence of Claude Woodson, Al Salazar, Dennis Rush, Rodney Holms, Christine Lampert, Julio Usera, Dennis Laughlin, Rich Wells, Doug Langworthy, Josh Usera, Mark Boreson, Jack Smith, and, a host of others.
